První byl nápad, jelikož jsem si přečetla anotaci a pak tři dny potom tu knihu nemohla dostat z hlavy - a včera konečně podlehla a začala ji číst.
Druhý byl styl psaní. Moriarty mě okamžitě vtáhla do děje. A i dneska, den po čtení, stále cítím tu melancholickou a hořkosladkou atmosféru na jazyku a mám chuť se přiblble uculovat a zároveň se obejmout a chce se mi tak nějak plakat.

"I'd be at work, where people respected my opinions,” said Nick. "And then I'd come home and it was like I was the village idiot. I'd pack the dishwasher the wrong way. I'd pick the wrong clothes for the children. I stopped offering to help. It wasn't worth the criticism.”

Tento příběh není jako ostatní contemporary. Četla jsem jiné knihy, které byli více... kdybych napsala "reálné", lhala bych, jelikož tahle kniha vystihuje skutečný život nejvíce z contemporary zaláskovaností, které jsem četla. Chci napsat, že tato kniha tak nějak stála jednou nohou v oblacích a zároveň měla na druhé olověnou kouli, která ji pevně držela na zemi. A představit si to najednou, a navíc správně vyvážené, je dokonale matoucí. Nevykresluje postavy tak dobře, jako jiné knížky, které jsem milovala. What alice forgot však má jednu věc, která ji staví mezi nejlepší z mých čtených, navzdory tomu, že v těch dvou věcech není na vrcholu - a to je, jakým způsobem byl příběh vyprávěn, a jak se udál. Jelikož tam není nic z předstírání a není to nic jiného, než pravda tak, jak bychom ji mohli sledovat teď. Je to šílené a děsivé a pravdivé, a přesto je to plné naděje a zoufalého optimismu.
"Anyway”—Nick looked at his watch—"I'll get back to the office. I guess we'd better talk about this later. I don't know what sort of punishment you're thinking, but obviously it has to be severe—”
"What do you mean?” said Alice. "I think we should talk to her now. Right now. Both of us.”
Nick seemed startled. "Now? You want me to be there, too?”
"Of course I do,” said Alice. "I think we should take her for a drive. And we're not going to jump in and start punishing her. I hate that word. Punishment.”
"Oh, sorry. I guess we should reward her. Say ‘Well done, honey, maybe you should consider a career in hairdressing.'”
Alice giggled. Nick smiled. The sunlight was shining directly onto his face. He shielded his eyes with one hand and said, "I'll know when you get your memory back.”
"How?”
"The way you look at me. As soon as you remember, I'll see it in your eyes.”
"Will they shoot death rays at you?” said Alice.
Nick smiled sadly. "Something like that.”
Kniha se mi zdála lehce chaotická, ale to může být pro velký počet POV, který vyskakoval ve chvílích, které jsem nečekala. Společně s častými retrospektivními pohledy to na mě křičelo, že by to mohlo být lépe učesané... Ale pak by to ztratilo tu atmosféru, pro kterou jsem si knihu zamilovala, takže hádám, že je to stejně bezvýznamné řešit. Ale je to fakt, pro který jsem nedala tu poslední půlhvězdičku.
Stejně je to zatraceně emocionální kniha, kterou si budu nosit v hlavě ještě nějakou chvíli.
Jelikož... manželství. Ráda bych snila o takovém i pro mě, jakkoliv je to bolestné. :)

(well, není to úplně spoiler, ale po přečtení úryvku vás to nasměruje k odpovědi jedné situace, která se v knize řeší. Na druhou stranu je to ale tak nádherný úryvek...)

Takže si představte Alicino překvapení, když se probere na podlaze fitka a je okamžitě odvezena do nemocnice na vyšetření, kde zjistí, že její líbánky jsou definitivně u konce - rozvádí se, má tři děti a ve skutečnosti je jí třicet devět. Alice musí zrekonstruovat události posledních deseti let, a zároveň najít odpověď na otázku, zda je její starý život opravdu za ní, bez možnosti nápravy. Musí zjistit, proč s ní její sestra stěží mluví, a jak je možné, že se stala jednou z těch superštíhlých maminek ve velmi drahých hadřících. Především se však Alice musí rozhodnout, zda je amnézie požehnání či prokletí, a jestli je možné začít znovu od začátku. |
