Description:
Gu Yan Fei was reborn.
In her previous life, she only discovered after her death that she was the real daughter in a story about a real and fake daughter. As the legitimate daughter of a marquis's household, she had been maliciously swapped at birth, grew up in poverty, and became a complete cannon fodder.
The original female lead, the fake daughter, enjoyed great fortune, living in luxury and receiving all the affection as the treasured daughter of the Gu family. She thrived by stepping on Gu Yan Fei's blood and bones.
In that life, Gu Yan Fei lived in confusion and died in obscurity. After her death, she was reincarnated into the cultivation world and became a medical cultivator. Unexpectedly, after two hundred years of cultivation, she was struck by a heavenly thunderbolt and sent back to her previous life.
She returned at the moment when the truth about the real and fake daughters was revealed.
As the true daughter returned, everyone in the marquis's household mocked her for being ignorant and useless, believing she couldn't compare to the kind-hearted and stunningly beautiful fake daughter.
What they didn't know was that the current Gu Yan Fei had been reborn at full level!
Review:
I really like this story! I started to read it on Webnove1 and I was so sure I've already read it somewhere before. 😂 Not in a sense it is similar to another story - tbh, ancient chinese/asian novel with reborn underdog MCs disliked by their families are kind of same but not same 😂 - but that I've read this exact story before. The title here has "Medical cultivator" instead of "Healer" on WN and maybe "Medical cultivator" was there before.. ?
Anyway, back to book.
The translation is, well. It is better than most on WN. But not exactly good (switched pronouns, genders, sometimes names... also, wtf, why are some titles translated like British prince or some similar BS thing?! Unfortunately clasic webnovel).
I loved the story. It had some really interesting concepts - MC had spiritual powers due her previous life in cultivation realm but she couldn't do anything she wished, she was limited by Heaven.
And Heaven will was kind of jerk. :D I just loved the idea of MC and ML being abandoned by Heaven and fighting working through it by their brain, not plot armor.
Overall the story had solid plot and plot twists, it was really long but still made sense and most of the important lines were tied up nicely.
And funny MC and ML! ML was sweet, inteligent and likeable. No BS abusing, stalking, manhandling etc. which can be found sometimes in AN. Patient, protective and wanting partner, not a doll. Such a good man. MC was a little bit passive but smart still. And she was just funny AH.
All the characters were really clever, no s*upid cannon fodders but crafty people which made smart decisions.
Relationship dynamics on the other hand were often performative and some other times just author's heavy handed deux ex machina makings.
Minor spoiler ahead ->
MC and her relationship with brother and the brother cutting of fake sister were too sudden and forced for example...
<- End of spoiler.
On the other hand, MC had real girlfriends who were sweet people. That was nice surprise as girl other than MC is othen equal with enemy in AN.
So, for asian novel, this level of lifelike characters was really good.
But tbh, the story is more of brainfree relaxing fun. Really, the main reason I liked it so much was its light atmosphere, I was laughting so many times, and I was grinning happily too when reading about ML courting MC. 😁 It was harmless fun and I just knew that there would be no ugly stuff happening to my fav characters which is not always given in asian novels.
(For those not familiar with asian novels, there are times of casual racism and obsession with whiteness so beware.)
So yes, it was kinda predictable, but it was interesting at the same time. I've read it in two days, which is probably telling. 😂 Even though descriptions were sometimes realy long winded (metaphors were amazing most of the times, repetitive beautifications of MC and ML not so much after x-times).
Also, not sure if it is just me, but I had this feeling that this story is kind of throwing shade on tropes and more overused themes in ancient chinese/asian stories, and that subtle sarcasm just hit my heart square. 😁😂
So, the story is not the best, it is quite simple and ordinary, but perfectly amazing for light reading with some sprinkle of harmless politics and slow burn romance. Amazing summer (or stress 😂) read. 🌼
